Over View

New to Legacy 8:

  • Pedigree Citation
    Add source citations to your Pedigree Charts, and attach the complete bibliography.
  • Source Labels
    Now print Source Labels to attach to the top of your documents. You will never again lose the citation when making a photocopy for someone else.
  • Source Quality
    Now record the quality (original vs derivative, primary vs secondary, etc., direct vs indirect) of each source as you attempt to prove your conclusions.
  • Source Clipboard
    The Source Clipboard has been expanded to load up to five different citations that can be assigned at the click of a button.

Pedigree Citation

Add source citations to your Pedigree Charts, and attach the complete bibliography.

However if you have many or a lot of citations, this could become problematic of displaying all those numbers on a Pedigree Chart. Legacy have overcome this situation by being able to group citations into a single paragraph.

What Legacy displays:

  1. Reports > Pedigree Chart
  2. On Select a Report dialog, click Report Options
  3. On Report Options dialog, select required options:
    • Print Source Citations
    • If an event has multiple citations, combine them into one paragraph
    • Print Bibliography
  4. On Report Options dialog, click [Close] button
  5. On Select a Report dialog, click [Preview] button

Source Labels

Now print Source Labels to attach to the top of the plastic sleeve that holds your documents. You will never again lose the citation when making a photocopy for someone else.

  1. Family View > Individual Sources Icon
  2. In Assigned Sources dialog, select required source list name then
  3. Click [Print a Source Label] button to check output
  4. On Source Labels dialog, select last option - Only the Current Source
  5. Click [Preview] button

Source Quality

Now record the quality (original vs derivative, primary vs secondary, etc., direct vs indirect) of each source as you attempt to prove your conclusions.

Along with the Surety Level found in the Source Detail dialog for each citation, you can add the quality of the source. The Quality of the Source is divided into three sections(Source, Information, and Evidence) each of which has their own sub-options that you can select.

  1. Family View > Individual Sources Icon
  2. In Assigned Sources dialog, select required source list name then
  3. Click [Edit Detail] button
  4. On the Source Detail for EventName, click [Analyse Source Quality] button
  5. In Source Quality dialog, record each section appropriately
  6. Click [Save]

Source Clipboard

The Source Clipboard has been expanded to load up to five different citations that can be assigned at the click of a button.

Legacy used to have multiple source citations in version 6 and earlier but was removed in version 7, 7.4 and 7.5. It has been reactivated in version 8 but as an option, therefore this feature needs to be turned on in order to use it.

  1. Open Source Clipboard
  2. Options > Allow Multiple Sources on the Clipboard
  3. Select each tab separately and add source using link
  4. Use clipboard as normal
